International Society of Genetic Genealogy (ISOGG)

From time to time, in our society, and in others, you will hear about DNA testing and pros and cons of various ones. Personally, that is all very interesting, but it tends to go in one ear and out the other. However, one place to remember (if you only remember one) is the ISOGG (go to this post title for the formal, but LOOOONG name. ISOGG is here.

The ISOGG web site has lots of information about DNA testing, such as their category list, here. They compare different testing companies and discuss who has what shortcomings. They have "beginners" pages, here. Their category on testing companies, is here. They have good advice on choosing a company, here.

Membership in ISOGG is free. They are not funded by any particular testing company or group. They don't have "get a DNA test" commercials on TV. You won't find a better deal on anything dealing with DNA. Go there and click around a bit to see what is there and how it is organized. Then you'll be able to go to what you really want to know when you see one of those "DNA Test" TV commercials or when you get a "DNA Test Sale" email. ISOGG is the "Consumer Reports" of genealogical DNA testing.
